P.Osh Chewy Brownie

Go ahead... have your cake and eat it...

I just had this 'P.Osh Chewy Brownie' at my work place canteen. 
It passed my taste test.
The brownie tasted good and chewy even though its not being heated up.

Cost $2.50. Packed in a Zip-Locked Bag the size of my palm.
The Zip-Locked Bag was white in color... 
and made to resemble a doctor's prescription plastic envelope...
that you normally receive after visiting the doctor.
Very clever. Very creative. Very, very entertaining... pictures below...

I find it expensive. Would I buy it again?
Yes, at the next craving.

OUR STORY
Brownie movement. Cookie revolution.

This IS the revolution of the cookie and brownie industry.

We started out as two thumb twiddling teenagers with nothing much to do. But there was one thing we loved. Eating. Especially brownies and cookies. So we spent much time and money surfing Singapore, tasting brownies from different restaurants and outlets.

Fact, most of the brownies tasted mysteriously and oddly similar. But, of course! They studied at same classes and probably used the same textbook recipes too. It became boring, other than the occasional refreshing anomaly of a brownie with a burnt base, or micro waved till a dry brown fried mass was left, or smelling like a flower from vanilla over-dosage. Necessity is the mother of invention, and we cannot emphasise enough how necessary it was to taste something better.

Scouring and testing all sorts of documented brownie and cookie recipes, we found that none of them really worked. The only way left was to explore the best recipes we could find. Through all the experimentation, we got acquainted with how cookies and brownies behaved according to their compositions. It was just a matter of time.

We now have a modest range of cookies and brownies, each of them tweaked to a unique consistent perfection. It's not just a food, it's an experience. We had the hope of enjoying exquisite brownies and cookies. Now, we share this fantasy with you. It's not just an experience, it's a dream.

P.Osh is the brainchild between the two owners, Paul and Josh who both have a passion for brownies and cookies. Well they find most of the brownies to be fairly similar, and boring. Then through experimental, they came up with their own version of how a good brownie should be like, and hence the born of P.Osh.

P.Osh is located at the shopping belt of Dhoby Ghaut Mrt, where it is ideal in serving the shopping and the working crowd. It is the name P.Osh which stands out though. Remembering i seen the name before, i follow the trait to the little outlet and this leads to the brownie discovery!

The owners explained that there are currently about 11 types of brownies available, and you can get 5 in a box for $13, and 10 mini ones for $20. Like i said, comparison is inevitable in this line, and having tried brownies from the Brownie Factory recently, it’s no surprise really that i’ll compare both to give a big picture.

The folks at P.Osh says that each brownie tastes different, smells different, looks different, and feels different. Excitingly unique, and full of character. Some bake brownies, we give brownies life. Find a brownie that is so you, then fall in love with it. Some say, ‘you are what you eat’. We say, ‘you eat what you are’

3 Extra Mother (Sar Kay Mah)

I don't like eating this... but I know someone who does...

'Sak Ke Mah' or 'Sar Kay Mah' to me is translated in Hokkien as '3 Extra Mother'... but it's probably wrong.

Chinese Dessert Recipes


Translated as Sweet Egg Squares

Sweet Egg Squares or Sak Ke Mah was originally Manchurian food offered at ancestors remembrance ceremonies. In the Manchurian language, 'Sak Ke' means 'to cut' and 'ma' means 'to rearrange'. It is also said that in Hong Kong, some gamblers eat this for luck before they put their bets on horses.

The preparation of such Chinese desserts as featured in our Chinese dessert recipes require patience and time but the end result is most satisfying. Chinese traditional food usually use basic ingredients (nothing fancy or out of ordinary) as you will see here, the Sak Ke Mah mainly uses flour, eggs, sugar for the basic dough. This snack is deliciously chewy and sweet and filling as well due to the eggs.

Ingredients For Fried Strips
2 1/2 cups Plain Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
4 Medium Eggs

Ingredients for Coating
3/4 cup Castor Sugar
1/2 cup Maltose
1/4 cup Water
1 tbsp Vinegar

Method
• Sift plain flour together with baking powder. Add eggs, one at a time and knead dough until smooth. Leave aside for 30 minutes. Cut dough into half and roll each half into rectangles of 4 mm thick.With a sharp knife, cut into even 25 mm strips. Shred strips in finer strips.
• Heat oil and deep fry shredded strips until golden brown. Dish out.
• Cook castor sugar and maltose in water. Add vinegar. Pour syrup into fried strips and toss to coat thoroughly. Pour coated strips onto greased cookie sheet. Press firmly until compact (about one inch in height). Allow to cool before cutting into squares.

i don't read chinese and i wonder why this snack is called 'sak ke mah'. 'Mah' in cantonese, i know is 'horse' but this snack don't look anything like a horse. 'Ke' , to me , it sounded like 'riding', put the two words together, it means 'riding a horse'. What is 'sak' and how is this name associated to this delicious snack? Does anyone know the story to this name?, correct me if you please and excuse my ignorance.

Ingredients:

A:
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
4 eggs
6 cups oil for frying

B:
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup maltose
1/4 cup water
1/2 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar

Method:
• Sieve ingredients A:, add eggs and knead into a smooth dough , let stand for 20 minutes.
• Cut dough into half and roll one half into a rectangle 1/6 inch thick.
Cut into 1 inch strips and shred into fine strips.
• Heat oil and fry the shredded strips until golden brown. Remove and place into a large bowl.
• Cook B: for 2 minutes in medium heat(sugar should be dissolved),
pour mixture into the fried noodles and toss to coat.
• Pour coated noodles onto a greased cookie sheet pan and
press noodles into a compact rectangle, i inch in height.
• Let it cool, cut into square pieces.

On average, people walk about 1,000-3,000 steps a day in their ordinary activities. Health pros suggest we up that figure to 10,000 steps a day as one of the keys to healthy livingA 10,000 Step Program can be the path to fitness. Here's how to get started.

Good running or walking shoes are recommended for 10,000 Steps. Made it! Another 10,000 Steps tomorrow! 10,000 steps, in the gym, health club or outdoors.

1 ***Read About 10,000 Steps***
The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports recommends the 10,000 steps a day goal as a way of getting a healthy dose of exercise, losing weight, and keeping fit. The Resource Section (Scroll down) includes links where you can read more about it.

2 ***Take It Slow***
Walking 10,000 steps might mean adding an hour or more of walk time to your usual daily routine. This may not be an immediate goal for everyone. Start off slow by using everyday opportunities to walk a bit more -- stairs instead of the elevator (down is fine), walk to the mailbox or grocery store, go out for an evening stroll. Whenever you're about to get into your car, think: "Can I walk, instead?"

3 ***Take Care of Your Feet***
Good comfortable sneakers are the way to go. They don't need to be specially marketed as "walking shoes" (though those certainly wouldn't hurt). But as you build up to 10,000 steps a day, you'll come to appreciate the comfort and protection of a good pair of walking/running more and more.

4 ***Keep Count***
A pedometer that clips onto your belt or clothes is a simple and inexpensive way to keep tabs on how many steps your take during the course of a day. A simple search on "pedometer" will give you dozens to choose from. Use the pedometer for a week to get your baseline -- the typical number of steps taken during your average day. Then set a goal for yourself to increase your steps (say, an extra 1,000 steps a day), and use the pedometer to track your progress. Then add another 1,000. And another.

5 ***Use the Gym***
If you prefer a gym as part of your walking routine, no problem. Step class, the treadmill, a stair climber -- anything that gets you in a walking motion -- all count towards your goal. Some machines will even keep count for you. Note, however, that pedometers do not always do well on stair-stepper and similar machines. You may have to learn to 'translate' your machine step count.

6 ***Lock It In***
Once you reach your goal, keep going and make it a habit. After a few months of stepping, you'll feel great, and wonder how you ever got by without it.
